Shockwave Player 11.0 doesn't work at Mac OS X 10.5.3

Default Shockwave Player 11.0 doesn't work at Mac OS X 10.5.3

I've just installed SWP 11.0 on my Intel Mac with Leopard 10.5.3 but it doesn't
work. When I access Adobe's test page: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome
with both FF and Safari I can't see the SWP frame. However, there is no problem
to see Flash Player.

Yes, I have tried to uninstall and reinstall SWP. It does not help.

Any other suggestions?

I also have this issue. Did it work before you installed the OS X 10.5.3
update? Did it work under 10.5.2 ?
I tried following all the advice I could find on Adobe, Safari, and Rosetta
Stone's websites, all with the same miserable failure! I tried it multiple
times with no success. Uninstalled, reinstalled, with and without the "Open
using Rosetta" option in Safari. Also, no luck with Firefox and Opera. It
must be the 10.5.3 patch that caused this issue!

Same problem on my MBP Intel with 10.5.3 and all last software updates.
The Adobe support told me they can't help me because "installation was
successfull" and they support only installation issues ( :O ).

Any hint?

I have a (heinous) workaround.

1) Open up a terminal

2) if you don't have a lib directory for your userid, create it

mkdir ~/lib

3) create a link to the file it can't find (this is all one line)

ln -s /Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Shockwave\
11/DirectorShockwave.bundle/SwMenu.framework/Versions/A/SwMenu ~/lib

This works because ~/lib is a fallback location when a library can't be found
in its correct location. It's heinous because it has to be done for each user
of the machine. It's possible that there will be problems with other shockwave
component libraries, but it let me run the shockwave app I needed to run.

If you are the user who logged this with the Mantis bugbase, would you
also add this workaround - Adobe need to jump to it with a fix.

It seems working, at least in 90% of apps.

I found some errors here for example:

BTW, thanks for the workaround!

I am having the same problem with my new macbook. I keep getting an error
message saying that it tried to load the plug-in but couldn't find it. what
doesn't make sense to me, though, is that I was successfully able to install
shockwave on my mom's new macbook which she got in may.

is it just some macs that it shockwave isn't working on?

Are you the person who filed the original bug report? If so, it should
be obvious where and how. If not, you should wait for someone else.

When did they fix it? As I described in my first post, I'd already reinstalled
the software. As I can see on Adobe's download page the version of SPW is the
same as I installed - 11.0.0.0 and it is dated 3/25/2008 which is before I did
the installation (6/23/2008).

What makes you think that the problem is fixed, Sean?

actually, he is right. after days and days of installing and uninstalling and
it not working... it finally works!

I triple checked to make sure that I had uninstalled everything then I
reinstalled and finally got to play my favorite shockwave games.

Thank you Sean for the info! It works now!

I still think that it's strange that Adobe distributes different package with
the same version number and the same date of issue. But the important thing is
that they fixed it! Thank you all who's tried to help me with this issue!

Shockwave 11 still doesn't work for me. I had to download and install 10 and
have to run Safari in Rosetta Emulation mode. But I'm glad that at least THAT
works, so I'm not even going to mess with it anymore. Perhaps a truly native
shockwave will come out in version 12.

It doesn't work for me. I removed Shockwave, downloaded it again and
reinstalled. Still does not work.

Both Firefox and Safari gives me this in system.log:
[q]Error loading /Library/Application Support//Adobe/Shockwave
11/DirectorShockwave.bundle/Plugin.framework/Plugin:
dlopen(/Library/Application Support//Adobe/Shockwave
11/DirectorShockwave.bundle/Plugin.framework/Plugin, 265): Library not loaded:
@executable_path/../../../SwMenu.framework/SwMenu\n Referenced from:
/Library/Application Support//Adobe/Shockwave
11/DirectorShockwave.bundle/Plugin.framework/Plugin\n Reason: image not
found[/q]

Safari also gives me an alert saying:
[q]Unable to load plug-in.

The page ?Adobe - Test Adobe Shockwave and Flash Players? attempted to load an
Internet plug-in named ?Shockwave for Director?, but the plug-in failed to load
successfully.[/q]

Tried the symlink trick, but it failed. Then tried it in Rosetta, but it
didn't work there either. Running Safari 3.1.1 (5525.20) and Firefox 3 on OS X
10.5.3.
