Shockwave Player 11 Installation
I gotten the following message when trying to install shockwave player 11 on a
Windows XP Pro machine:
Error: The file 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\Shockwave 11\SYMCCHECKER.DLL' could
not be opened. Please check that your disk is not full and that you have access
to the destination directory. The system cannot find path specifiec.
I have a 80gig HD with 52gig remaining. I have tried to create the above
location with no success. I have followed all the suggested items under the
help section with no success. If someone else is having this problem please
let me know how to fix it. I have full admin rights to the computer.

Re: Shockwave Player 11 Installation
Did you have a previous version of Adobe Shockwave installed?
Perhaps uninstall that first, remove the Shockwave 11 folder listed under the
Windows file manually (with IE closed) and try to install again with all your
browsers closed.

Re: Shockwave Player 11 Installation
nicgam, As I previously mentioned, I have followed all the recommendations of
the Adobe web site. I have looked in all the registry folders and removed all
traces of the player. Then tried installing it again with the same problem.
After removing all traces, I did reboot the computer just to make sure nothing
was left behind.

Re: Shockwave Player 11 Installation
[q]I have tried to create the above location with no success.[/q]
I assume you mean you tried to manually create
c:\WINDOWS\System32\Adobe\Shockwave 11 ?
If you're not able to create the folder, what is the error you're getting?
Perhaps it's a bad sector on your hard drive?
chkdsk /f might be the next logical step.
Beyond that, I'm not really sure what could be causing it. Doesn't appear to
be related to your profile.
If you're able to eventually create that file location manually, I can upload
my symcchecker.dll file for you to see if that might help.

Re: Shockwave Player 11 Installation
nicgam, I found where the a file called Adobe with no extension and move it to
a new file floder location and then the system would allow me to create the
Adobe folder. However, in the mean time I found another Shockwave 11 folder in
the system32 location. It was located at
c:\WINDOWS\System32\1033\Adobe\Shockwave 11\symcchecker.dll. After relocating
the Adobe file to its new location, I relocated the referenced file found to
the general system32 folder and tried to reload and was successful. Thank for
all your help.
