Shockwave Xtra error message
I've done everything I could think of - uninstalling, reinstalling,
uninstalling and then reinstalling the full download, but no matter what I do I
get the following error messages on a website that I play games on.....
"This application requires an Xtra (text/Flash movie) that either does not
exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure the appropriate Xtras
are in the Xtras folder"
I'm using SP 11.0 - and this problem just started -
Anyone? Thanks a million

Isn't there anyone from Adobe who monitors these forums to provide assistance?
This just isn't working with games - it's creating errors like I posted above
and final message is to contact the author of the software....Hello?

Unfortunately not.
Can you provide a URL to a file that fails?> This just isn't working with games - it's creating errors like I posted above

Perhaps the sensible thing to do first is ensure your Shockwave
installation includes the Flash Asset xtra. Download and run the full
installer from
<http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/shockwave/default/english/win95nt/latest/Shockwave_Installer_Full.exe>

Re: Shockwave Xtra error message
I mentioned in the initial post that I have downloaded the full installation
and unfortunately, the problems continue.
I'm on a website called eons.com and play the brain games on that site - when
you click on the game (not all of them - just the ones that require SWP - a
small window pops up to load the game - that window does not have a URL.
And those games have worked for months until the SWP was upgraded to 11.0.
I have the Xtras file including the Flash Asset xtra in my
windows/sys32/adobe/shockwave folder Are the Xtras in the right file? Maybe
when I'm trying to access the games w/SWP, my computer is looking for the Xtras
in another place? Is that possible?
Does anyone know of another tech forum for SWP - thanks again.

Also, there's something wrong with the link you provided - I downloaded the full installation, but I was curious to see if the link you suggested was maybe? a different full installation?
thanks.

No, not that I'm aware of. Check for a duplicate under "C:\Documents and> Maybe

Settings\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\Shockwave Player
11\xtras\download\AdobeSystemsIncorporated\FlashAs set" and rename it if
there's one there.
Try submitting a bug to Adobe:> Does anyone know of another tech forum for SWP - thanks again.

Re: Shockwave Xtra error message
Hi Sean -
Well, thank you so much for responding to all......
I'm going to deal with this tonight and see about if I have duplicate
files/folders.
And yes - when I click on the link you provided I get this message:
"404 Not Found - The requested URL
/get/shockwave/default/english/win95nt/latest/Shockwave_Installer_Full.exe> was
not found on this server. Apache/2.0.52 (Unix) Server at
download.macromedia.com Port 8000"
Oh, please don't tell me it's my computer!
Thanks again - Patti

Re: Shockwave Xtra error message
OK, here's what I did - I threw caution to the wind and I'm happy to report
that it worked and didn't cause my laptop to become unstable.
I uninstalled both Flash Player and Shockwave from the Control Panel (I use
Windows XP and Firefox)
Then I searched my computer in the C drive in files and folders - I searched
for Macromedia, FlashPlayer, Flash Player (w/the space), Shockwave, and SWP
(some SWP files ended up being associated with other programs). I deleted
every last file and the contents in it.
When I went to the eons.com site to play a Daily Puzzle, I clicked on the link
to open the puzzle, the window opened and the Firefox browser message said that
an Add-In was needed. I clicked on the option to install the Add-In and when
it was complete, the message said "Macromedia Flash Player 10.0" has been
installed. I clicked "Finish". The game screen came up and it "Adobe
Shockwave Player" and the installation bar was loading. Then a message window
popped up saying "Shockwave Player 11" has been successfully installed.
Now why this worked when downloading the full installation didn't I've no
idea. (previously I uninstalled the programs from the Control Panel, then I
downloaded the full installation of both the Flash Player and Shockwave from
the Adobe website)
Now I can do puzzles :smile; - thanks Sean!

It loaded in my Firefox the first time just fine without doing any uninstalling stuff.
