Default Show crop marks from IL > ID > PDF!?

I'm sure there is a way to do this, but I can't for the life of me
figure out how to do it.

    I have created a 3-1/2" x 2" business card in IL which has a 1/4" bleed
on all sides. I set Object > Crop Area > Make and saved the file as a
PDF with crop marks. I then Place the PDF in an ID doc with Place >
Crop to: Bleed and it shows up just great. The "card" shows the bleed
and even portions of the crop marks set by IL. Next I use Step and
Repeat to impose 8 copies on an 8-1/2" x 11" page. Finally, I export
the file to a PDF document to hand off to the printer, BUT, the "cards"
have lost their bleed and the crop marks - ugh! The "cards" appear in
their "trimmed" state. What has happened? What have I done wrong?

    Any help would be appreciated.

InDesign 1.5 used to actually mistake the trim box for the crop - and
users had to go Acrobat/Crop Pages/Set to Zero to see everything .. IF
you are ID 1.5 then try this ... otherwise I would suggest your last PDF

    Jon,

I should have mentioned that I am using ILCS on a MAC G5 running OSX
10.3.9. I'm afraid I didn't understand your post, could you please try
    again?

My fault - the IL didn't trigger ...

You might want to try the IL forum - CS2 is great at producing PDFs
since it uses the same common PDF settings ... ;-)

    Sorry for the confusion ...

    Jon & de_Siem,

    Thanks for your replies.

I'm afraid I'm still not able to accomplish what I want. It is hard for
me to imagine that an ID document containing IL files with bleeds and
crop marks cannot be passed on intact to a PDF file. I can't believe
that Adobe wouldn't preserve that capability since the whole point of
the Creative Suite is a seamless, compatible work-flow. Anyone from
Adobe want to chime in here?

Did you ask in the InDesign forum? You aren't using Acrobat at all.

as well and someone posted the solution.

I replied in the InDesign forum:

    Brett,

I remember this being a problem before when you carry the Illustrator Object > Crop Marks > Make and place it into other applications. (I remember it being a problem in QuarkXPress a long age ago.)

Instead of that, use Filter > Create > Crop Marks which creates real stroked lines. These should carry through your production process.

    Brett replied:

Thank you for your suggestion! It worked! And it also preserved the
    bleed! Many, many thanks!
