Show/Hide Layers buggy in IE

I'm working on an online catalog where I have one big image that contains image
maps. The image maps are hot to a Show/Hide Layers behavior. Everything works
well, layers show and hide when they're supposed to. However, in IE (both Mac
and PC), if you roll over the part of the image map where a layer is hidden,
the layer flickers and is illegible. If I roll over the part of the image map
where a layer is not located (and hidden), everything is fine and the layer
shows perfectly.

Has anyone else run into this? Any solutions/suggestions?
