Show rulers
how do i get "show rulers" to stick. everytime i create a new freehand mx file the rulers are not showing.
not that big of a deal to just do the key commands to make them show, but i didn't know if there was a preference somewhere to make them show all the time. thanks for any help!

Re: Show rulers
Pete,
You have to set up a Default Template in FMXa. After you have a new document with Rulers, Font, line weight etc., save it as a template and put it into User>Library>ApplicationSupport>Macromedia>Freehan dMX>Englisk>Settings.
Go to preferences>Document and then select the template you created when you open FH up the next time.

Re: Show rulers
The state of the Document Rules does stick. It is just that it is a document
attribute (like page size, page orientation, ...) and not an application
attribute.
To get File>New to produce a new document with Document Rulers one, you
simply need to point the Preferences>Document>New Document Template to a
FT11 file that has this attribute turned on. This is an ancient feature in
FH although recent versions have made using it easier and have moved the
location of these files. The instructions below are for FHMX and FH10.0.1
(win). FH10.0 Win/FH10.x Mac and earlier use a different location for their
templates and lack the Select/Browse button requiring you to enter the
filename (if using the default location) or full pathname (if using a
different location) manually.
1. Create a new document.
2. Alter this document however you wish; in this case, turn on Document
Rulers.
3. Save the file, as a Template. Its generally best to use the same folder
as the one that contains the "Defaults ..." template currently being used by
FH athough you can use any folder on your system provided you have full file
access for both read and write (current OS's, Mac and Win, are a bit pissy
about this). Use a unique filename. You can find the location of the default
files by first accessing the Documents tab in Preferences and clicking the
Browse or Select button associated with the template filename field. The
file open dialog that results will be looking at the appropriate folder.
4. One the file is saved as a template, access the Document tab in Prefs,
click the Browse/Select button and select your new template.
Now all "new" documents will be based off of this template. By not
overwriting the "factory default" templates you can still switch back to
them if you ever change your mind or if you want to use them again to
rebuild your own custome template. Anything that saves with a document can
be added to your default "new document template" including colors, styles,
graphic symbols, master pages, brushes, page size, page orientation, page
bleed, layers, objects on the page, printer name (Win only), ... .
