Shrinking Images to fit (w/o smart image processer) - Macromedia Dreamweaver

Is there a process ( without buying the smart image processor extension ) to allow a user to upload an image (sized at 700x500) and set the dynamic page to only display that image as a 500x300 image ? Can tables be " locked " so that it will only display the smaller image (set with table properties )Even with the image size being 700x500 ? What I want to be able to do is allow a user to upload an image (of any dimensions) and have it display consistently at a certain size. Thanks for the help...

Well, you can hardwire the image on the page to be 500x300. But that
requires that the browser resize it with stoopid pixel doubling algorithms,
    resulting in pixellated images.

No. You can establish minima using shims, but not maxima.

It's best to do this on the server.

Thanks Murray, when you say Hardwire the image can this be done with dynamic
    images ?

And if you dont mind .... what is the process to Hardwire the image .......
also ..... are there any other extentions such as the smart image processer
    that you know of ?

The setting within tables are mimum sizes, however you could place you image
in a layer and set the layer to not scroll, or resize. This will not fix the
    display problem though.

I would check with your webhost as they may have some image manipulation
components already loaded such as ASPImage

Sorry again about the continued ignorance on the topic Murray and thanks for
the help. When hardwiring in that code .... is there any way to set it so
that it wouldnt affect images smaller then the 500x300 and that it would
shrink images larger ..... something like a MAX size thing ...

    Mike:

I suppose you could write some server code that could pull the images size
from the database (assuming *you* put it there in the first place) and write
the image tag accordingly. I guess that the lack of real suggestions should
tell you that you are chasing this down a narrowing funnel....
