    Default Simple network problems

I am trying to network my old and new computers so as to share resources
(DVD drive, printer, Internet connection, etc). I have the NICs
installed on each machine and have connected both directly with a
crossover cable. The newer computer has the internet connection (via
cable modem) so I've got Local Area Connection #1 for the Internet and
Local Area Connection #2 for the network connection to my other
computer. I've run the network set-up wizard on both computers but can't
seem to get them to see each other or access each other's resources,
nevermind being able to access the Internet on the older machine. I do
have LAC #1 on the new computer set-up for ICS. Both systems are now
running XP as I thought that would help me iron out the difficulties but
still no luck. When I view the workgroup computers on the old PC I only
see that PC. When I view them on the new PC, I can see an icon for both
PCs but am unable to access the old PC's resources when I click on that
icon. It tells me that it's not accessible, I might not have permission
to view this network resource, to contact the administrator and that the
network path was not found. Viewing My Network Places on either shows
only the shared resources for that machine. Is it evident to anybody
what I'm doing wrong? I tried to follow the proper steps to set-up the
network but am extremely frustrated at this point. It shouldn't be this
difficult to get the two PCs to communicate via a crossover cable,
should it? Any help would obviously be greatly appreciated.

Jason, firstly I never did like the Setup Wizard, here's
how I would go about setting it up.

We make the machine with the Internet connection the
host, so let's call that Server, we enable ICS on that
machine on the Cable conneciton, so that forces you to
use IP 192.168.0.1. We leave our workgroup name as
    Workgroup.

Next, we go on to the OLD pc, we set up it's IP to be
192.168.0.2 , and the DNS servers are those of your ISP,
    and the Gateway is 192.168.0.1.

We put the workgroup name to Workgroup just as the other
    PC.

We then share the Hard Drive, and don't put a password on
it, and we share the CD rom etc. If it asks you for a
password you'd put in the password you usually use to log
    on to the OLD PC.

I think you should be pretty much set now I've done this
and it works for me, so yeah your using TCP/IP wid client
    for Ms Networks.

    Good luck,
P.S I used XP Pro, but in "theory" it shouldnt make a dif.
