simple networking?
I am running 2 toshiba notebooks. What is the simplest
way to use either at any given time and to transfer
material between them.
Can I work on the same document at the same time with a
collaborator working on the other computer simultaneously?
I do not have LAN available all the time but sometimes
find myself working on one computer and would like to be
able to access info on the other's C drive. Can I, in
effect make another computer's hard drive an additional
hard drive for the computer I am working on?
How do I do it?
Thanks

Re: simple networking?
Possibly the simplest way would be to put a network card in each laptop and
create a small workgroup. because they are laptops, I would suggest having
the network cards be wireless ( 802.11 G for faster access ). This will
allow you to access all information on both machines from either machine.
As for working on the same document, usually if a document is being actively
accessed by one machine, then access is normally blocked ( you'd be allowed
to create a copy of the original non accesses file. There is software out
there which allows a change in this behavior though, but with only a two
machine setup I'd think the cost would out weigh the benefit.

simple networking?
The simplest solution to your problem would be to set up
a workgroup between both computers using a RJ45 direct
ethernet cable. You could also use the files and settings
transfer wizard in windows XP, but this takes a bit more
configuration. There are other ways e.g. terminal
services... but these may be way to far out of your
scope. Go with the workgroup solution this should work
for you. Good luck!
