Simple question: changing computer name

Is changing the computer name any more complicated than simply opening
the Sharing preferences panel and changing it there? Ditto for the
Rendezvous name?

I checked Apple's KB and the online Help and they both indicated that
one can simply change the name with no negative consequences.

If that's all there is to it, I'll be delighted.
