Default single document to cover an installation/upgrade?

I run a webserver with ColdFusion. I have to say in advance, this is NOT my
only job function, so I can't totally immerse myself in ColdFusion -- however .
    .. .

I have been trying to upgrade from ColdFusionMX 6.0 to ColdFusionMX 6.1 off
and on for a year now. Things keep getting in the way :( I have moved from
our server witn Windows 2000 with IIS 5.0 to a new one with Windows 2003 and
IIS 6.0. Seemed like a logical time to upgrade to 6.1 -- I know 7 is out,
    buying it soon :)

I have had 3 nights of pure (*&# now. Everytime I get one step forward, I
have to stop and search for how to fix what's not working and so goes the saga.
Long story short. Could there be a single document somewhere that covers what
pathches, hotfixes, java versions, etc. must be installed before the upgrade
and what must be installed as soon as the upgrade is ran?

For those of us who do not have the luxury of being Java and ColdFusion guru's
this would be most helpful. My latest encounter is an error stating "exception
occured trying to get an MBean". I have found 1 reference to this error on
this site. It says in CF7,
    "Solution
To resolve this, ensure that wsconfig is executed using a 1.4 JVM version
instead. Using wsconfig.jar at the command line is the most effective means for
specifying the JVM 1.4 java executable when running wsconfig."

Of course, there is no link to download 1.4 JVM and the link below doesn't
tell you how to "specify using the JVM 1.4"

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Cinda

Default Re: single document to cover an installation/upgrade?

Is that the only error you are getting? I would make sure the server has all
the latest updates as well. If you are running Win2003 do not install SP1 as
Microsoft's hosting division has told hosts to hold of on that because it can
    cause issues down the road.

I would make sure that all Java installs are up to date. A quick visit to
java.com will take care of that.

Also, make sure you are running the latest version of the ColdFusion updater.
I've used that to update countless CF servers and never ran into any issues.

I don't think there is a single document out there (at least I have not seen
it) because of all the bug fixes and updates over the years.

Default Re: single document to cover an installation/upgrade?

Thank you for your information. I do have SP1 installed, mandated by
superiors. Turns out that the Mbean error was because the WMI service was
running, I believe. I did find a reference to that, at some point, for another
    error. Anyway, it's working now.

    Thanks again!
