.sit files on OS X? - Mac Programming

Slightly off topic... Users download my software as a .sit file (stuffed on OS 9). One user today said that after unstuffing, the app was set to open in Classic! It is a carbon app and I want it to open in X. Unstuffing works correctly for me. Has anyone else seen this? Is there a known problem with OS X file settings and StuffIt? I can make a .dmg or .sitx file and have separate downloads for OS 9 and OS X. But, I would rather not have separate downloads if I don't have to. Thanks!...

It's my understanding that the carb resource is outdated. Instead I put
LSPrefersCarbon set to "true" in the plist.

    According to tn2013:

When the user unstuffed the app and it opened in Classic, he was able to
unchecked "Open in Classic environment" in the Finder, and it opened in OS X
after that. But, again, I have personally never witnessed this, and it has
worked correctly for many other people. I don't understand it...

I wonder if Stuffit Expander (maybe old versions?) needs the carb resource
    to set the settings correctly?

    Thanks.
