site root relative links
Hi I am trying to allow users to use Contribute 3 to edit some navigation
which appears on the right side of their pages. The problem is that these
includes can be pulled in to pages which exist all over the site structure. ie.
3 folders deep, 5 folders deep etc. That being the case, Contribute does not
create a satisfactory link - ie it creates a document root relative link which
breaks when the file navigation file is included to a file that exists
somewhere else in the site hierarchy. It seems an extraordinary oversite by
Macromedia which I told them about since version 1. Am I missing something? Is
there a work around? Graham

Re: site root relative links
Hi Graham,
Did you ever figure this out? I agree that this seems an extraordinary
oversight, especially when the problem is only an issue at the edit stage (ie:
Contribute navigates the website with use of Site root-relative no worries as
one would expect).
If anyone has an answer to this, I would appreciate hearing from you. It
kinda makes creating templates rather pointless since one cannot be sure in
advance how many levels deep a user wants to create a page... Maybe someone
has written some clever javascript that increments or decrements ../ etc to
make it work in a flexible folder structure.
Cheers,
Phil

Re: site root relative links
I used up one of my Tech Support inquiries to ask about this, and the
only solution they had was to open up the Advanced options after going
to Link Properties and manually inserting the Root Relative link
yourself in the HREF field.
An annoying fix... but it works (note, you have to insert the link
FIRST and then go back into Link Properties in order for the root
relative link to stay there)

Re: site root relative links
Cant you go into advanced and manually type the root relative link? Though I agree, you shouldnt have to do this, it should be a setting in administration.

Re: site root relative links
Yeah, you'll have to change it in the Advanced box.
However, you have to insert the actual link first and then go back into "Link
Properties..." or else Contribute will change it back to document relative when
it is inserted.

Re: site root relative links
Has this yet been fixed? There's got to be a way to force root relative links as an admin. Does anyone know?

Re: site root relative links
I too need to know if there's been a fix for this yet. We currently use static
HTML menus so when a new menu item is added, a large find and replace is
required using Dreamweaver. This is much harder to do if the links have been
changed to document relative as the code is altered on pages that have been
edited in Contribute.
Any help gratefully appreciated.
Regards, Matt.
