Slackware 9.0 and SATA Drive - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

I am trying to install Slackware 9.0 on a new PC (Dell Optiplex GX270). It has a Seagate 120GB SATA drive. I used the bare.i bootdisk, and it appears to recognize the drive ok. Default Slackware 9.0 and SATA Drive

I am trying to install Slackware 9.0 on a new PC (Dell Optiplex
GX270). It has a Seagate 120GB SATA drive. I used the bare.i bootdisk,
and it appears to recognize the drive ok. I say that based on the
following message during the boot process:

    hda: ST3120023AS ATA Disk drive

Then it hangs with the message:

    hda: attached ide disk driver

Nothing happens after that. I have to do a hard reset.

I tried the "unsupported" sata.i bookdisk from slackware. Although
that boot process does not hang like before, I see no indication that
the hard drive was even detected. The Setup program and fdisk
complains that there are no drives.

Has anyone had luck installing slackware on an SATA drive?

Default Re: Slackware 9.0 and SATA Drive

I have the same computer and had the same problems for RH9.0. Finally I
disabled the SATA disk and installed RH9.0 in a PATA disk. I then rebuilt a
2.4.21 kernel then enabled the SATA disk.

This time the new kernel recognized the SATA controller and ICH5 chipset.
However, it hangs with the same message:

    hde: attached ide disk driver.

Any suggestion? Do I need any special kernel parameters? I tried "hde=
    scsi-ide" but didn't make it.
