Slices or Hotspots?
I was just wondering, if I select a rectangle in a document, there are two
ways that I can add a popup menu;
1) Insert slice -> Insert popup menu
2) Insert hotspot -> Insert popup menu
Would anybody be able to point out the advantages disadvantages (if any) of
both methods? I did notice, however, when using the slices method that
Fireworks adds extra files for the images that the hotspot method doesn't.
Anything else? Thanks all....

Re: Slices or Hotspots?
Generally, if you want rollovers, use slices, if you don't use hotspots.
That's very simplistic - there are times when you don't wnat rollovers, but
still use slices - like when trying to make your site accessible to those
who use browsers without graphic capabilities or who browse with images
turned off. Here, alt attributes can be applied to each slice giving some
indication of navigation options.
Similarly, there are times when hotspots are just easier to use - like with
non-rectangular navigation elements.

Re: Slices or Hotspots?
Ah, thanks Rich, much appreciated.
By the way, I really love your work on your home page! I hope those styles
work on Fireworks 4...they're excellent.
Peter.

Re: Slices or Hotspots?
Hi Rich, I hope you don't mind me emailing you but I had to ask you
something. I totally love the styles that you uploaded to your website by
the way. I can use them on my fonts and shapes...the chrome and gold are
just superb. I was wondering, I would like to use these styles in my popup
menu (if that's ok) but I just can't see them in the popup wizard. I copied
the style files from the Configuration/Styles into Configuration/Nav Menu
but they are still not there. Maybe I need to restart...
Thanks again!
Peter.

Re: Slices or Hotspots?
You will need to re-start Fireworks to see these appear. Can't think of a
reason why they wouldn't work after you've restarted. As you've probably
discovered. Some are not really suitable for small areas like pop-up cells.
I don't use pop-ups so don't have any installed in that directory, but I did
try it once, and it worked without problems.
