Default Slow network browsing and opening of share files/drives related to WebClient Service.

    Hi,
I have a problem opening shared folders or drives on my 2000 / 2003
    Servers from Windows XP Pro.
I found that is I stopped WebClient Service and set it to manual the
    network browsing all work correctly.
Does any one know what WebClient Service does or should do.
I have Windows XP Pro SP1 with all critical windows updates installed.
I have the DNS set to the 2000 Server Running DNS.
Problem in peer to peer and also in Active Directory network.
Can I leve WebClient set a manual or is there a fix for this problem.

Soory, I have no answer but only the same problem.

I have tried a multitude of things to no avail. The only
reference I have is that if I disable the network
connection and re enable it everything goes fine. If the
computer is left idle for some time I loose the network
    connection again.

    Some XP machine go fine.
