Slow performance of website - Coldfusion Server Administration

Hi, I'm not really much of a techie, but I'm having problems with my intranet server, its on a windows 2000 machine with service pack 4, with coldfusion mx version 6,1,0,63958. The site is very slow, and the CPU usage is very erratic, mostly at 100%. I've restarted the coldfusion service and the machine itself, but its still the same. Can anybody help? TIA...

This is 6.1 gold without the updater (free upgrade).

I would consider apply the 6.1 updater before trying to debug this further.
There were issues with the database drivers, etc and other system issues that
    could cause the spike.

Then look at the hotfixes page and apply any that might apply to your
application (ie do you use client variables).

You can find the updater here:

and the hotfixes to 6.1 updater here:

If you still have spikes after applying the updater and any needed hotfixes,
get a stack trace by using technote 18339.
