Slow Response after external connection

have been experiencing slow response time from my application after someone
connects outside the firewall. This then affects everyone inside the firewall
and eventually we have to restart Coldfusion when it gets too bad. Has anybody
experienced a similar problem and if so was it resolved and how.

This is getting really frustrating now. The site is running CFMX6.1 using a
whole host of CFC's and is a very complex system which obviously has an impact
but this does not explain the external forces at work if you pardon the pun.
