Slow spooling print jobs
I have one 2003 print server which only has IBM Network 17
printers on it. As far as I know this is the only site
having a problem where the print jobs take a very long time
(1-2 mintues) to print out. These are 1 page print jobs,
not multiple pages.
Each printer is on a Standard TCP/IP port and is using the
IBM drivers, both PCL and PS. It makes no difference if
users use either driver.
Yesterday I took a look in the spooler and saw multiple 0
KB files which I presume were print jobs which had already
printed. I stopped the print spooler service, deleted the
files, restarted the spooler and had a user print. The
print job went through in a very short time (several seconds).
It appears that the spooler folder is not deleting the
print jobs which have already printed fast enough and these
0 KB files are clogging things up.
In our configuration the admin created an F: drive and has
that as the spooler folder. This is the same configuration
for all our servers but only this site is having the slow
printing issue.
Ideas or suggestions on how to get these 0 KB files out of
the spooler folder faster?

Slow spooling print jobs
Try sending RAW to the printer. Does the memory
confiuration match your other servers? CPU speed? Disk
speed? Any other apps running on the box? Same version of
the drivers? Same OS patch levels? What about what you are
spooling to? Any firmware revisions?
Eliminate the differences and what remains is where to
look.

Slow spooling print jobs
Yes. This server is identical to all the other servers in
the field. They all came from the same batch and were
installed with the same OS and all the same patches. It is
identical.
