Anything written into the template's non-editable regions will propagate to all current (and new) child pages automatically. If you want the code you are placing to ONLY be on certain child pages, then open the child page, and place the code within the editable region in the head of the page, e.g., NOT like this - but like this - :music; Notice that I am showing CHILD markup in this case ("Instance"), NOT Template markup, because you would have to do this on the child page. Placing content like that into the Template page would not automatically propagate that code to the child pages, only to new pages you create from the template after adding the code. And subsequent to creating those new child pages, changes to the editable region markup in the Template will once again NOT propagate. Smart Link within Templates - Macromedia Dynamic HTML

I've posted a thread about trouble with the Smart Link behavior before, some help was acquired but there are still problems. These problems are starting to get bigger and more annoying. I've got a site created, I'm using templates to create the pages so they are all alike. On the pages that I use the Smart Link, I've inputed the code for the behavior: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- <!-- function dpSmartLink(u,n,w,h,p) { // v1.4 by David Powers var a,j,k,x,y,f='';if(!n){n='';}if(w){f+='width='+w+', ';}if(h){f+='height='+h+',';} if(p){p=p.split(':');if(p[0]!='z'){p[0]=='c'?(x=(screen.width-w)/2):x=p[0];f+='l eft='+x+',';} if(p[1]!='z'){if(p[0]=='c'){y=(screen.height-h-p[1])/2;if(navigator.appName.inde xOf('Op')!=-1){ y-=96;y=y<0?0:y;}}else{y=p[1];}f+='top='+y+',';}}a=arguments.length;if(a>5){for (k=5;k<a;k++){ switch(arguments[k]){case 'all':f+='toolbar,menubar,location,scrollbars,stat us,resizable,';break; case 't':f+='toolbar,';break; case 'm':f+='menubar,';break;case 'l':f+='location,';break; case 'sc':f+='scrollbars,';break;case 's':f+='status,';break;case 'r':f+='resizable,';}}} if(f.charAt(f.length-1)==','){f=f.slice(0,-1);}j=window.open(u,n,f);j.focus(); doent.MM_returnValue=false; } ...

    Default Smart Link within Templates

    I've posted a thread about trouble with the Smart Link behavior before, some
    help was acquired but there are still problems. These problems are starting to
    get bigger and more annoying.

    I've got a site created, I'm using templates to create the pages so they are
    all alike. On the pages that I use the Smart Link, I've inputed the code for
    the behavior:

    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    <!--
    function dpSmartLink(u,n,w,h,p) { // v1.4 by David Powers
    var
    a,j,k,x,y,f='';if(!n){n='';}if(w){f+='width='+w+', ';}if(h){f+='height='+h+',';}

    if(p){p=p.split(':');if(p[0]!='z'){p[0]=='c'?(x=(screen.width-w)/2):x=p[0];f+='l
    eft='+x+',';}

    if(p[1]!='z'){if(p[0]=='c'){y=(screen.height-h-p[1])/2;if(navigator.appName.inde
    xOf('Op')!=-1){

    y-=96;y=y<0?0:y;}}else{y=p[1];}f+='top='+y+',';}}a=arguments.length;if(a>5){for
    (k=5;k<a;k++){
    switch(arguments[k]){case
    'all':f+='toolbar,menubar,location,scrollbars,stat us,resizable,';break;
    case 't':f+='toolbar,';break; case 'm':f+='menubar,';break;case
    'l':f+='location,';break;
    case 'sc':f+='scrollbars,';break;case 's':f+='status,';break;case
    'r':f+='resizable,';}}}

    if(f.charAt(f.length-1)==','){f=f.slice(0,-1);}j=window.open(u,n,f);j.focus();
    doent.MM_returnValue=false;
    }
    //-->

    //-->
    </script>

    The first time it worked fine, but anytime I go back to the page that uses the
    code (child page-not template) and change a little thing (i.e. a link) it
    removes the code...? So I have to put it in to the child page for it to work,
    because with the template, when I look at the child page under code view the
    behavior code has been removed...?

    I'm starting to dislike this behavior because it's causing big issues with my
    pages and templates. I can't even do a simple update without having to redo
    the code for the behavior...simple ridiculous!

    Please help!!

    Thanks,
    Cody

    This implies that the code being removed is somehow placed in the
    NON-EDITABLE region of the child page. Are you placing that code using
    something other than DW?

    I'm just using good old DW. I'm putting the code on the actual template with
    in the head tags, which is where David Powers had told me to put it, but once I
    link/create a page from the template the code is removed and I have insert it
    into each individual child page.

    Well, I would say it's not possible, but let's see the template after you
    have placed some of this code, please.

    Default Re: Smart Link within Templates

    If you want the code you place in the template to be present on every child
    page, then place it into a non-editable region of the template. Your smile
    would be an OK place, although remove one of these -

    <!--

    and one of these -

    //-->

    You don't need two of them. Anything written into the template's
    non-editable regions will propagate to all current (and new) child pages
    automatically.

    If you want the code you are placing to ONLY be on certain child pages, then
    open the child page, and place the code within the editable region in the
    head of the page, e.g., NOT like this -

    but like this -

    <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="head" -->:music;<!--
    InstanceEndEditable -->

    Notice that I am showing CHILD markup in this case ("Instance"), NOT
    Template markup, because you would have to do this on the child page.
    Placing content like that into the Template page would not automatically
    propagate that code to the child pages, only to new pages you create from
    the template after adding the code. And subsequent to creating those new
    child pages, changes to the editable region markup in the Template will once
    again NOT propagate.

    Make sense?

    Right - thanks for the clarification. DW still inserts them, however....

    Yes, it does no harm in present day browsers. But deprecated since the

    So the code is in the correct place, but it doesn't keep it there when I make a
    child page from the template, that's when I have to insert it myslef. What's
    weird is the spot where it is in the template code on the child page, it's
    blank and the spot is still there except for the code. The <...! and the //!
    or whatever is still there just no the code?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Cody

    You are describing things that just aren't possible. Really.

    How many pages are in your site?

    Well it is possible, because that's what's happening. Not to be rude, but just
    because you haven't had it done doesn't mean it's impossible.

    I have 42 pages on the entire web site. Only 16 pages use the code for the
    Smart Link.

    I know the scenario sounds strange, but thats why I'm writing on this forum
    because I don't know whats going on. I have the code placed in the correct
    spot on the Template, but it just gets removed anytime I make a new page.

    Is there anyway I could e-mail you the .dwt file and you could see what I mean?

    Thanks,
    Cody

    Yes - that's where I was going with this.

    Please send it to forums at great-web-sights dot com.
