G'day to all.

Small problem (I think).

Synopsis:

1) Win2K server with IIS and SMTP (BOX1),
2) Exchange 2K on seperate box (BOX2,
3) DNS configured for Internet mail - BOX1,
4) DNS configured for Interanal resoluton - BOX2,
5) BOX2 relayes mail to BOX1 (routing for internet). BOX1 relays mail to
BOX2 (routing from internet to intranet),
6) BOX2 also provides POP3, NNTP, IMAP and LDAP,
7) We host 45 different company emal services (managed firewall and
domains).

All works well (and has been for eons). Now the question:

I periodically have an email message (or two) in \inetpub\mailroot\queue.
It's stuck!

Wont' go anywhere. Restarted the IIS and SMTP box (all the latest fixes and
SP etc). Once BOX1 is recycled (rebooted) the mail will go out. The message
is not from a specific user, it appears to be random.

This happens periodically and the only way to resoslve it is to reboot BOX1.
We've tried recycling SMTP and IIS on BOX1 - to no avail. We've written
scripts that recycle the services on BOX1 and scheduled it to run every
hour. Still no go.

No viruses, GFI mail security (antiSPAM) is disabled. Norton Enterprise is
disabled. Nothing else on BOX1 except for cirtix XPe, but that's been there
for ever.

Any ideas???

Tx in advance.
