    hi.
sun's answer to openview is sun management center. the basic components
of it are free, but addons are extra (i am not certain which features fall
into which column - ive never used it). at first glance, it seems to be
pretty modular and allows for centralized management, which sounds what you
are looking for. perhaps it would be worth the investment - maybe others
in the group with direct experience with the product can contribute.

sun has released a couple of blueprints articles on the topic:
    http://www.sun.com/blueprints

if the investment in smc is too high, the information that is provided
through snmp on solaris is well-doented and could allow you to
develop your own snmp manager to gather the information you were interested
    in.

    Have a look at N-View <http://www.n-view.de/index_en.html>. It's
written in Java, but quite efficient and it gives a nice overview
of the SNMP capable devices in a small to medium-sized network.

We have been using Big Brother http://www.bb4.com successfully for about 3
years now. The freeware version is a bit tricky to set up, but very
    flexible.

Highly recommended, if you have the time to set it up.

I dont know why sun bothers to include these in solaris any more.

HP openview replaces it with its own agents.
*SunMC* replaces it with its own agents.
