Solaris 8 & raw devices - Sun Solaris

Hi all, Is there a way to re-initialize raw devices? I've installed Informix DB and created some data files on raw devices. Then I've removed Informix. Now I want to use the raw devices for something else, but any time I try to put something into those devices, system complains that there is not enough disk space. I'm suspecting that informix old db files are still there. Any help appreciated. -- Regards, Seweryn Pietruszewski com...

Default Solaris 8 & raw devices

    Hi all,

Is there a way to re-initialize raw devices?
I've installed Informix DB and created some data files on raw devices.
    Then I've removed Informix.
Now I want to use the raw devices for something else, but any time I try to
put something into those devices, system complains that there is not enough
disk space. I'm suspecting that informix old db files are still there.

    Any help appreciated.

Did you remember to newfs the partitions. Also, if I remember correctly,
Informix wanted Informix as either the owner or group on those
partitions. Last I think the permissions were also different then normal.

No. raw devices are not generally "initialized" in the first place.
They're simply used by whatever application you want to use them.

Okay. I wouldn't call the data in "files" (since it's not a
    filesystem), but I understand.

    What? Another DB space?

It's very difficult to guess here. *what* are you trying to do, and
*what* is the exact error message? There are very few things that make
    use of raw devices.
