    Default solaris 8 on Intel

    Hi,

I recieved the Solaris 8 Operating Environment kit from Sun. I
installed it on an Intel PIII 700 MHz with 20 GB HDD. I am new to
Solaris. I am having these problems:

    1. I am not able to run C program. The compiler isn't installed. I
    used all the CDs.

    2. The graphic card I have is S3 Trio 3D/2X. Solaris doesn't support
this driver. The card isn't of much use.

Is there a solution to atleast the first part.

    Thanks

As to the C compiler, you can download and use GCC (GNU C Compiler !)
don't know about your graphics card

Either get gcc or buy Sun's C compiler.

You can download the "XFree86 driver porting kit" which should allow
you to run most popular graphics adapters under Solaris/Intel.

Jesus you already asked that one.

Perhaps the FreeX86 porting kit will work with it, otherwise you're
probably limited to the rather grim these days vanilla VGA
    (64xx480x16colours).

Yes wait a bit until your questions get answered before being even more
    stupid and asking them again.

Why? Let's see... I can either use ksh, or the immensely buggy bash
    shell...hmmm....

bash is good when there's no ksh... but other than that....

We just found another bash bug where the shell dies. We were able
to alter the script slightly and get it to work. Of course, no
    problem with ksh.

    A good shell can do:
    echo "hello world!"
Without getting caught up in a bunch of bad csh-isms.
