Solaris Networking problem - Sun Solaris

Hi, Does anybody tried to install Solaris9 x86 on a Althon 2600+ machine with VIA KT600 motherboard? I have one and everything goes all right except my LAN card. I am using 3C905B-TX LAN card. Solaris9 are able to recognise my LAN card, and I can read my IP address, MAC address from 'ifconfig -a', but I can't make any network connection with other machine on the same network. A nice guy on other forum told me that I should issue the command "eeprom acpi-user-options=0x2" to disable ACPI fuction on motherboard, and "set pcplusmp:acpi_forceload=-1" in /etc/system. However, it doesn't help. ...

    Default Solaris Networking problem

    Hi,

Does anybody tried to install Solaris9 x86 on a Althon 2600+ machine
with VIA KT600 motherboard? I have one and everything goes all right
except my LAN card. I am using 3C905B-TX LAN card. Solaris9 are able
to recognise my LAN card, and I can read my IP address, MAC address
from 'ifconfig -a', but I can't make any network connection with other
    machine on the same network.

A nice guy on other forum told me that I should issue the command
"eeprom acpi-user-options=0x2" to disable ACPI fuction on motherboard,
and "set pcplusmp:acpi_forceload=-1" in /etc/system. However, it
doesn't help. Does anybody have such experience? Thank you.

Do you have only 2 machines with a cable running between them? If so that
    must be a crossover cable.

    Thanks for reply.
All other machines on the network are connected to a hub. My Solaris9
on another machine (Duron1.2GHz, VIA KT-266 chipset motherboard) doesn't
    have such problem at all.

Is the connection indicator on the NIC lit? Did you try swapping patch
    cables with another machine?

Disconnect the cat-5 cable from that NIC then reconnect it. You should
get something like this in /var/adm/messages:

Sep 27 07:57:05 tar iprb: [ID 501353 kern.warning] WARNING: iprb0: no MII link detected
    Sep 27 07:57:10 tar iprb: [ID 206987 kern.notice] NOTICE: iprb0: 100 Mbps full-duplex link up

    Hello NG,

    I have a similar problem I geuss:

I have an dual Pentium (dual p133 - I know old, but good...)
    on a Asus PC/I P54NP4 D , latest Bios.

I am using an old 3com NIC,

    etherlink III
    3C509B-C

    on Solaris 8, latest patchlevel.

the dca recognizes the NIC correctly,
the system is working quite fine.

IP adress, Subn.mask is also correct,
the machine is connectet to a switch.

    there is no IRQ sharing

solaris is coming up 1 time after installation,
nic is working, ping, traceroute is working

    reboot

    nic is present as elx0

ifconfig elx0 is showing the correct entries
but the machine has no networkconnection
    anymore

    shut down machine

putting the nic into a different E-ISA slot,

    reboot

everything is working fine till the next reboot.

does anybody know this problem ?

The lit on NIC is green in color and I get the similar console message
    after reconnect the cat-5 cable:
    WARNING: elxl0: link failure
    NOTICE: elxl0: 100 Mbps full-duplex link up

Start a snoop on that Athlon machine:

    # snoop -d elxl

Then go to the Duron machine and ping the Athlon machine.

Did the snoop show any traffic?

Are you certain that you have not duplicated the IP address with another
    host on the network?

Does 'arp -a' on the Duron machine show the Athlon machine?

Do you have the ip addresses and ethernet addresses listed correctly
in your host and ethernet maps or tables? do you have durons ip
address in athlons host file and vice versa? Did you try a different
port on the hub? Did you try a different cable? is there another
slot you could try the nic card in?
what exactly is the output of a config -a on the athlon system? if
you add it to the arp table on duron can you ping it? do you have the
defaultrouter set? what's in your resolv.conf? nsswitch.conf? Those
are some of the things I'ld look at.. before I tried a different nic
    card....
