Default some JPG's won't be placed

    Hi,

I'm using indesign to place (CRTL D) JPG images and suddenly I can't place certain JPG's which appear to be exactly as the others which I can continue to place.

What happens is I get an error message "CannotParse error occurred creating the screen display for the imported graphic. The graphic will draw as a grey box, and will not print or export correctly. Do you still want to place the file? -y/n"

The JPG's all seem to be the same in terms of bits.

    Any suggestions??

Sounds like they were made with the Progressive option switched on. Renders them goobledegook to InDesign.

Sounds like you may be working with InDesign 2.0. I had the same problem, but was quickly fixed when I installed updates 2.01 and 2.02. from the Adobe download page.

    True Ray,

am working with 2.0. Although, i am not around the internet with my computer with ID on it.

is there another alternative than an update? i found that from 2.0 i didn't have this problem before. it is only certain files.

    cheers,

    Paul,

InDesign 2.0 should really have the updates installed. There's a few other fixes that are part of the updates, so it's highly recommended that you run the updates.

I guess the only practical way of getting the updates onto your PC running InDesign is to download the updates (both are about 13MB), burn them to CD and install from there.
