some man pages are not available - Mac Programming

Hello. I'm using MacOSX 10.3 (upgraded from 10.2) with Developer Tools and fink installed. I cannot find man pages for some standard library functions. for example, printf(3) and getopt(3) are not available. I think those are too standard to be missing in my machine. Is this normal or my maching having a problem? And how can i get those man pages installed if they are missing by default? Thanks....

Default some man pages are not available

    Hello.

I'm using MacOSX 10.3 (upgraded from 10.2) with Developer Tools and fink
    installed.

I cannot find man pages for some standard library functions. for
example, printf(3) and getopt(3) are not available. I think those are
too standard to be missing in my machine. Is this normal or my maching
    having a problem?

And how can i get those man pages installed if they are missing by
    default?

    Thanks.

It is most certainly not normal. However, both printf and getopt are
also shell commands, meaning if you type 'man printf' or 'man getopt',
you'll get the man page for the shell command. Are you typing 'man 3
printf' and 'man 3 getopt'? If you are and it doesn't work, then
    something is broken.

I sure know about this. man getopt(sec.1) works fine. I just need the function
man pages and it doesn't exist in my machine. some do exist (system calls eg.
select), some dont (scanf). Do you have them?

My troubleshooting philosophy is always to ask the "Is it plugged in?"
questions first before going on, since 90% of the time it's something
    simple.

Anyway, I do have all of the mentioned man pages. Did you install the
BSD subsystem when you installed OS X? Have you installed the developer
tools? I don't know exactly what installs those man pages, but it's
    probably one of those two.

Yes, I had the same problem : some files from this package were not
installed, eventhough it was indeed run as part of my upgrade process.
Others man files were correctly installed / updated. Manually running
the BSD.pkg from Panther solved the problem.
