Some Quark Files Shutting Down IDCS

I just installed IDCS on a W2000 NT system. I'm trying to convert a 100-page manual from QuarkXPress 4 to InDesign CS. I've succeeded in converting about 2/3 of the manual, but the rest of the files cause the following error:

"Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart the program ... etc..."

Any ideas or suggestions? I really hope I don't have to re-create all of the remaining chapters.

If you have access to QXP then open the document up and break it up into
a few separate files. Then try again.

Thank you for your reply. What I neglected to mention was the manual is already separate files. Each chapter is an individual file, as are the cover, the introductory pages, and the appendices (the appendices are broken into 3 files). I have successfully converted the body of the manual. I have not been able to convert the cover, introductory pages, or the appendices. The appendices account for roughly 36 pages of the manual, so I really would like to be able to convert them rather than recreate them.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Again, if you access to QXP then open them there, turn off all
extensions and resave. Then try opening them again in ID.
