    Default sound problems

im trying to make a button that mutes that sound on puppetsound 1 the code is

    on mouseUp me
    puppetsound 1, ("bleep11")
    if sound(1)=255 then
    sound(1)=0
set the membernum of sprite 20 to 53
    else sound(1)=255
set the membernum of sprite 20 to 52
    end if
    end

the problem is that is says it expects an = before the 0??? has anyone got any
idea on how to fix this or maybe an asier way to mute ALL sound in the project
    via a button?

    if sound(1)=255 then
-- doesn't look valid, should test a property of the sound object

sound(1)=0 -- bad scheme try: sound stop 1

    a simple mute al kluge:

set the soundlevel = 0 -- turn down system volume control
