Sound Studio Skipping - Mac Applications & Software

Hi, I've been trying to record some vinyls into Sound Studio, with a view to creating a CD. I've got my record deck wired up to the computer's line-in (via my mixer so its at line level). I can hear the record playing through the speakers fine and everything appears to work okay, until I come to play back the recording in Sound Studio. It seems that the recording contains lots of intermittent skipping (i.e brief glitches as if the record itself has skipped when it definitely hasn't.) Default Sound Studio Skipping

    Hi,

I've been trying to record some vinyls into Sound Studio, with a view
to creating a CD. I've got my record deck wired up to the computer's
line-in (via my mixer so its at line level).

I can hear the record playing through the speakers fine and everything
appears to work okay, until I come to play back the recording in Sound
    Studio.

It seems that the recording contains lots of intermittent skipping
(i.e brief glitches as if the record itself has skipped when it
definitely hasn't.) I've retried it several times, and even (dumbly)
burnt a CD from it, in case its a playback problem.

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

I'm using Sound Studio 2.0.7 that came with my OS X 10.2.3 (recently
    upgraded to 10.2.6)

The computer is a 1GHz iMac with 512Mb of RAM.

Any help appreciated, this is the *only* thing that's annoying me
    about my Mac!

    Cheers,

    Bobbo.

The problem is either Sound Studio or your hardware. First, try
recording into another app. (I use Montage, myself; you'd be well
advised to get a copy, since if you're going to burn vinyl to CD you'll
want Ray-Gun, which includes Montage.) If that doesn't help, then come
back and we can think about your hardware arrangement. m.

you'd better try use version 2.1.1b3, from www.fettip.com

I had the same problems when I had 256MB RAM, though.

I have tried Sound Studio and had it repeatedly crash within the first

My question is: Is the program any good?

    What alternatives do people recommend?

It never did much but crash for me either. But some people do like it,
so it must work for them.

I use Montage for recording and for basic sound processing of vinyl, and
Amadeus II for editing, removing clicks, etc. m.

    Robert Love <net> asked:

Spark ME from TCWorks, free d/l
    Spark LE ~$50
    Spark (Pro?) ~$500

ME does most everything SoundDesigner did,
IMHO easier to use than Peak LE, and cheaper

Amadeus II is essentially the same product created by someone else, and
not only is it far more stable, it costs considerably less.
