Source File Attachment
I work on Vitamin labels that are created in Quark and plan to embed the master source document within the PDF. How safe is it to have the only copy of the source file embedded in the PDF? My pdf documents are going to be held on a webDAV server.
Also,
Thanks,
Karen

Re: Source File Attachment
Explain what you mean with 'safe'.
Could mean a variety of things.

Re: Source File Attachment
I know that you can put passwords on the attachments for security, but I'm talking about safe as in, could it get corrupted?, could it not be able to ever be opened again? could it be lost forever?
Also, in regards to security. ...would you know why when I go to set the security to put a password on the attached file, the option for permissions security is greyed out and I can't set the security for "no printing" and "no changes". I would like these files to have all of those security measures without having to set a password to open the whole file.
In other words, I want to have the pdf to be able to be accessed via webDAV as view only with the attachment locked.
Thanks again,
Karen

Re: Source File Attachment
Keeping a single copy of ANY file in ANY format is not a good idea. Backups are essential. Any file can get corrupted.

Re: Source File Attachment
well, of course the server will be consistently backed up. . .i'm just worried that the encrypted source file will not be consistently reliable is all. So before I start "storing" my source files within the PDF, I want to be sure that there are no inherent issues with doing this.

Re: Source File Attachment
None I've heard of, but probably only a small number of people use the attachment feature, so you're on your own.
