Default space shift when converting 2 column doc to PDF

    Ti-Book 667/1024/100GB/Mac OSX 10.4.7
    Adobe Acrobat 7.0.8 (16.05.06 23:51) Professional
Microsoft Word X for Mac Service Release 1
    no printer

When I convert a Word document containing inserted photographs into a PDF, a "period" or "dot" appears at the very beginning of the document and everything shifts down that tiny amount of space. When the converted document PDF is opened, the shift is there.

This happens when the document contains two columns. The first column has the shift down, so the second column has this slight but perceivable shift up.

I use the PDFMaker button to convert directly from Word. Since I am not using a printer I don't know if this shift prints, but it is definitely there on screen.

    Thank you very much.

    BR,

Word changes the way a document looks depending upon the printer that
is being used to print the file. When you convert to pdf, Word is using
the PDF Distiller virtual printer. Word is changing the document when
you try to convert to pdf. These problems do not happen with a decent
page layout program. There are quite a few available, including Adobe's
InDesign as well as less expensive program offered by other companies.
You can even find a few decent word processing programs that do not
display the characteristics you are seeing.

Try selecting the Adobe PDF printer BEFORE you lay out the document.
