    Default Spacer Image

    Ok so I see all these sites that I like and I want to re-create my site to look
    something like these sites that I see. When I download these sites they have a
    small image that downloads a small 1 by 1 image that is named spacer I'm
    wondering what this would be for? I'm assuming that this is for all the empty
    places in the site but it still doesn't make any sense to me if anyone could
    explain this to me it would be awesome thanks

    Default Re: Spacer Image

    A 1x1 px transparent GIF can be used to force any particular area to a
    specific height/width. It's resizable in the browser, and transparent so
    that any background 'shines' through.

    It's commonly used by those who build pages with tables to hold the table in
    shape (rather than using ineffectual table cell dimensions).

    You don't need to give an alt description of that image.

    alt="this is an invisible gif, sized at 1mm by 1mm. You cannot see it, "

    alt="" works well.
