Re: Spanish accents Using Mac
Are you having a problem in Illustrator specifically? On the Mac in general, if you select the Spanish keyboard configuration in your keyboard control panel I presume you should be able to type your accents as you would expect. Otherwise you can manually add accents by typing a code just before typing the accented character. Option-e will generate the acute accent over whatever vowel you type next (é). Option-n will type the tilde (ñ). To get the opening question mark just type shift-option-? (¿) and the opening exclamation point is option-1 (¡). I forget if there are others in spanish, but they're all supported.

Re: Spanish accents Using Mac
I think the problem is on the Mac in genera. I looked for the Spanish keyboard control but I didn't find it?
Also, if the manual accents don't work, does that mean I have to switch to a different font?
Thanks in advance,
Jeryl

Re: Spanish accents Using Mac
I always use option e and then the letter that needs an accent, but they have to be lowercase letters. After you can change them to caps if needed.
But I'm on OS9.2.2 with AI10.03. It's always worked like that for me.

Re: Spanish accents Using Mac
OK. That worked for the e and the tilde n, but the a always comes up with a little circle over it instead of an accent and the o ends up with a slash through it. How do i fix this?

Re: Spanish accents Using Mac
That doesn't happen with me. Maybe change the font?
I use just English type, are you using a different language?

Re: Spanish accents Using Mac
If on the OS X system go to International Preference Pane, the system preferences, and select input menu and select Spanish and then you can pull it done from the American Flag that will appear in the menu bar. You can get Menu and Palettes to behave as Spanish as well by selecting it in the language tab.
You can also use AI CS Glyph Palette and also in the Character palette at the bottom you will see the selection called language if you show the options for the Character palette.

Re: Spanish accents Using Mac
The only thing that seems to work properly is the Glyphs palette.

Re: Spanish accents Using Mac
Wade, When I go to the Glyph Palette in AI, it isn;t enabled. I clicked on the text tool and it still wasn't enabled, so I was unable to click on it. The following are the symbols that come up for o and i (instead of the accents):øø ^^

Re: Spanish accents Using Mac
Also, for the a i get: å.
I changed fonts, but that didn't fix the problem.

Re: Spanish accents Using Mac
You are using QA*I 10.0.3? OS X.xx?
If you are using AI 10.0.3 in OS X.x.x there is a work around again go to the International Pane and there you can enable a glyphs palette (called Character palette) as well. Use that or purchase PopChar which is a third party plug in for the system that sits in the upper left hand corner of the menu bar and will allow you to insert such characters in any application.

Re: Spanish accents Using Mac
You need to type option-e, then a. If you type option-a you get a whole different character. If you type option-o you get a whole different character. The option-e always creates an acute character over any vowel that comes next.

Re: Spanish accents Using Mac
I thought they were talking about the accent gravue is that how you spell it?

Re: Spanish accents Using Mac
The grave accent is the "backwards" one (option-` ). The normal accent in Spanish is the acute accent, as I recall. From the description of the problem it sounds like they were typing option-a to get the accent over an a, and so on. I'm guessing they just missed the fact that it always needs to be an "e" for that particular accent.
If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.

Re: Spanish accents Using Mac
Oh! I see that was all they wanted? Sorry I failed to comprehend such an easy problem.
But from what I was reading it sounded like this was working different in OS X than in OS 9.2.2 and earlier but as it works the same I guess that through me off.
I'll have to read a little deeper between the lines.
Glad that Jon could assist you.
