Default Spot Separates to CMYK in Distiller

Anyone have an answer for why my spot colors in Quark are being separated to CMYK in Acrobat? I run into the problem when I bring a greyscale Tiff into Quark and color it with a spot color (making it a monotone photo). But when I distill the document, the spot color separates to CMYK. Are my settings wrong in Distiller?

I'm using Quark 6.52 and Acrobat 6.02 on a Mac.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    -Christine

Update: I did some tests and found that if I do the same in InDesign, the separation works fine. Must be settings in Quark that are incorrect. Anyone have a solution? Thanks!

You need to choose the "DeviceN" setting on output.

    Hi Christine

For clarification: Distiller is NOT changing the color of the Spot colored TIFF. The defined colorspace of the Spot color tinted grayscale image in the PostScript Stream that QuarkXPress generates is already CMYK, if the color setup in the print dialog box is not set to DeviceN.
