spotlight searching question
I have a question regarding using Spotlight to search file content in OS X.
We are a small group of teachers who produce a monthly current events newsletter. I have many ID files from previous issues on my computer. Sometimes I need to find some info that I know is included in a file from previous months and years, but I can't remember exactly which one.
So I use Spotlight to search for example 'Pluto'. The results include Word, Appleworks, Excel, Eudora, and many other files that OS X has searched and catalogued BUT NOT ID.
This is a bit frustrating.
Can anyone advise?
Thanks in advance for your time.

Re: spotlight searching question
Are you embedding File Info in the InDesign documents? It is under the File menu. Or use the Bridge to add keyword metadata.

Re: spotlight searching question
InDesign has a proprietary, undocumented file format (which also changes between versions). Like QuarkXPress files, it can't be included in Spotlight searches.
Your best bet would be to export PDFs from your newsletter. They will make it searchable both locally (with Spotlight or Acrobat) or when posted on the Internet.

Re: spotlight searching question
Thanks for the info Steve.
I will follow your advice and make duplicate files in pdf format for searching purposes.
