SQL Server 7 on Windows 2000 Server
We have a copy of SQL Server purchased a few years ago
and it has never been unpacked. We want to use it now
with a few concerns. I appreciate if you could help to
answer the following questions : -
1.) Does SQL Server 7 run on Windows 2000 server?
2.) If I install a new copy of SQL Server 7 into
compresed drive, would it cause any problem?
4.) Can I install SQL Server 7 on other drives (such D
drive) instead of C drive in terms of stability?
5.) Are there many patches need to be appplied?
Many thanks for all your help!

I would not do it as it adds unnecessary overhead. It should still run, but> 2.) If I install a new copy of SQL Server 7 into

performance would suffer.
You have complete (well, nearly complete) control over where you install. I> 4.) Can I install SQL Server 7 on other drives (such D

have installed SQL Server to a variety of drives (my home machine has SQL
Server on D:\ with the databases on a separate hard drive).
I believe the patches are retroactive (as far as SPs). SQL Server 7 is up to> 5.) Are there many patches need to be appplied?
SP5, if I remember correctly. You can check the www.microsoft.com/security
site and do a search for additional patches after the last SP.
