SQL Server Developer's Edition
I seem to recall reading the SQL Server DE can be used to develop SQL
Server DB's, however the information now suggests that that is not the
case. I'm looking at using a SQL Server DB for the backend of my
website. What do I need to purchase in order to be able to develop the
db on my laptop and then deploy it on to my host's webserver?

Re: SQL Server Developer's Edition
I'll echo Bob, what is "the information"?
Developer Edition can be used for exactly that, development and testing.
You cannot use it to *manage* your live web site's back end, however.

Re: SQL Server Developer's Edition
I think your initial impression was correct. You can use Developer Edition
to develop stuff on your laptop.

Re: SQL Server Developer's Edition
The 'information' that I was referring to is the information available
on microsoft.com concerning the product. In their committment to
consistency, the information was, as expected, vague, ambigious and not
too helpful.
(Have you heard about the helicopter pilot who got lost in Seattle?)

Re: SQL Server Developer's Edition
What is your point? Where is the vague, ambiguous, and not too helpful
information? It seems pretty black and white to me. "Development and test
end-user license agreement prohibiting production deployment." What is
vague or ambiguous about that?

Re: SQL Server Developer's Edition
Oh, come on. The pages I listed are directly accessible off the SQL Server
section of Microsoft.com
There does not appear to be any ambiguity in them. If you can find other
articles that are ambiguous, and give you differing information to the
above, please post the links, and I will forward them onto content people
(or Aaron can, since he's an SQL Server MVP)
Cheers

Re: SQL Server Developer's Edition
"type of application on top of SQL Server."
The statement suggests that its the software is geared more to the
application side of things as opposed to the database side of things. If
it had simply stated (or included), a mention about developing SQL
Server databases in preparation for a deployment, that would have been a
bit clearer. If I recall, the documentation six months to a year ago
stated that.

Your description of what is vague and ambiguous is now even more vague and
ambiguous than your original assertion.

Has your issue been solved by responses about the licensing you've
received or do you need to contact Microsoft and verify your license
requirements? If so, you may find this link helpful:
