Does the brush shape come out like that when you're using it, or is it just the little icon that has the rounded corner? Mine looks like that, too, but the shape has never been effected when I'm actually cloning or painting anything. You might try resetting the brushes, which you can do from the far left side of the Option Bar.

    James,

I see what you're talking about... and observed that the rounded corner is
the intersection of the two "soft" sides of the square brush.

I enlarged the brush (I mean BIG) and just clicked once. The resulting
pattern was that the top and left sides were hard, but the bottom and right
sides were feathered. I found that the orientation of the feathered/hard
sides can be modified with the Angle setting in the brush options dialog.

I never realized that the square brushes are actually half feathered. I
wonder if there's a way of making the entire brush hard.

    Thanks for pointing it out!!

    Byron,

Just looked to see what you meant and found that my square brushes have a
sharp 90 corner on 3 sides. the bottom right is curved but this can only
be seen at about 500% and above.

When used even the bottom right corner is sharp though. Like stamping a
    white square.

I did find that if I choose a small brush like 8 size or below and then
increase the size with the slider it looks like that curve on bottom right
increases and it "feathers" when used.

So I guess if you need a sharp brush choose the exact size needed and if
larger than the largest (24) (only then use the slider or feathering will
occur). In other words don't choose what looks like a hard 8 and then
shove the slider over to 24! That brush will not work the same as the
    default 24, it will feather.

Now inquiring minds want to know.......why this is so?
