Stop at 518 on 43P

Hello,

A partner has a 335MhZ 43P that will not boot... the white screen keeps
hanging at 518.

We switch it on, it finds the hardware (keyboard, etc) and then begins
starting software... 517 the harddrive runs then pops 518 on the LED display
and everything stops.

What could be done?

OK I did some more research and discovered that this is the dreaded "518"
mount failure code of the root/boot fs.

I had to:
1. reconfigure his boot sequence to look at the CDrom before the HD (!!!)
2. ran fsck and found a boatload of critical errors on his /usr filesystem
(hd2)
...that'll do it...

Runs OK now.
