stored proc and tcp/ip - Microsoft SQL / MS SQL Server

Hello, is it possible to communicate with another program using tcp/ip? I mean, i have another program where i know the port number and the protokol and what i get back. Now i want to call this program using ip number and port number, sending a string to it and getting the answer as string back from other program. But this should be done with a stored procedure ! Any way to do this? thanks in advance, Helmut...

It would be much easier to get it working the other way arround. Have the
    program
execute the stored procedure. SQL server can listen on any free tcp/ip port.

If you have to communicate with tcp/ip enabled application from stored
    procedure than you'll
have to use activex components from stored procedure.

    See BOL for:

    sp_OACreate
    sp_OADestroy
    sp_OAMethod
    sp_OASetProperty, ...

    Hello Mr. Savovic,

thank you very much for this fast reply.
It is not possible to change the other program because
it is from another company. So the only way is to
call it from the stored proc.
I did a look at BOL but can't find out how to create an
    object for tcp/ip.
You wrote that i must use activex components, but are there
some existing in the operating system (and when yes, which
one) or do i have to write them by myself?

    thanks in advance,
    Helmut
