stored procedure that run asynch. - Microsoft SQL / MS SQL Server

You can put the stored procedure in a job, and have ASP start the job. ASP won't wait for the job to finish... Your best bet is to decouple this from the front end application - have the
asp page simply insert a row, set a flag, or update a timestamp that can be
used by another, scheduled (or background) process that can send out the
    notification(s)

    Hi Jarek,

You can't run stored procedures asynchronously. My preferred solution would
be to create a message queue table and have the stored procedure that is
called from the webpage insert a row with all the relevant information. the
message queue table can than be processed via a frequently running job that
runs the stored procedure to send out the emails. As you use this for
sending out emails, it is not time critical and short delays in sending the
    emails won't matter.
