Default Straight connectors?

Hi,

is it possible to create straight connectors in Freehand? E.g. from one
corner of a rectangle to a corner of another rectangle, i.e. from one point
to another?

Thanks for helping,

Chris

You probably come from a Visio background. FH does not have dynamic
"connectors". Describe in more detail what you are trying to do.

If you just need a line use "snap to point" and the line tool.

Hi Joerg,

thanks for your answer, yes, I tried the snapping already and it does almost
what I need. But the one thing it does not do, is moving the line when I
move the object the point belongs to. The background of why I want this is a
comfortable working, that makes it possible to move objects after I created
them and maybe connected them to other objects, without having to move the
other objects manually. Grouping is one thing to do this, but it doesn't let
me move just ONE of the objects, so that a line follows it. Simple example
is: two Textboxes, connected by an arrowline. When I move one textbox, I
want the end point of line connected to that textbox to follow it to the new
position.

Is this possible with Freehand? If not, does anybody know, what program can
do this? In Microsoft Visio it is possible, but I can't define a snapping
point of an object freely, the snapping points of rectangles are in the
middle of the edges. I would want them at the corners.

Thanks for help

Chris

Christian, what version of FH are you using?
FHMXa does have a Connector Tool, although it's pretty limited. Look up
Connector in online help.

Perhaps the connector is not what you need. Use an ordinary line. Subselect
the end point only of the line plus the text block and move them together.

Hi Judy,

thx for your answer, maybe this is what I need.

Can you explain how exactly to do that?

I can subselect the end point of the line and click with Shift on the
textbox, then I have both selected, but what then? How can I "move" them
together? I'm relatively new to freehand...

Thanks for your help,

Chris

I'm from the FreeHand old school where the Pointer tool does everything with
the help of modifier keys -- vastly more convenient than having to switch
tools midstream.

Subselect:
Double-click Pointer tool and check 'contact sensitive'. Now with pointer
tool, press Option (Mac) or Alt (Win) and drag around the end of the line
and the corner of the text block.

Move:
Lift the Opt or Alt key. Pointer cursor turns solid black. Mousedown on the
subselected point on the line. Drag objects into position and mouseup.

Hold down <Ctrl> to move them together.

Note: This sort of work (diagrams) is _a lot_ easier in Visio. You
can always make a drawing in FH and import it.

BTW: Take a look at http://flash.to/oe-quotefix ocassionally
