    Yaheya,

    You should read about the COLLATE clause in the Books Online, which you can
    use to force a collation conversion.

    Your error means that the column in table MYLINKED.qdb.dbo.da_user is
    using a different collation from the column in table qdb_order_detail.
    Probably the MYLINKED server is defined with a different collation, but
    collations can be defined to the column level.

    What are collations? Such things as

    82 SQL_Latin1_General_Cp1250_CI_AS

    93 SQL_Slovak_Cp1250_CS_AS

    If these cannot be gracefully joined by the server, the error is raised.

    The two databases are having different collations. You would want to add
    "collate" option to your query anytime you have string comparision.

    e.g.
    SELECT a.user_name, b.order_aprv_logon
    FROM MYLINKED.qdb.dbo.da_user a LEFT OUTER JOIN
    qdb_order_detail b ON a.logon_id collate
    database_default = b.order_aprv_logon
