stream/convert quicktime/wmv on the fly - Macromedia Flash Flashcom

Hi, I was already talking with a sales rep about this, and they weren't much help other then pointing me to these forums. My question is: I want to create a web-based media player using Flash. Users of the web site have the ability to upload video, in quicktime or wmv format, and other users can view these videos right away. So can the communications server either: 1. Stream quicktime and wmv files? 2. Or convert quicktime/wmv to flv on the fly? And finally, the users can also upload audio, so I'm guessing it's pretty simple to stream mp3s as ...

Default stream/convert quicktime/wmv on the fly

Hi,

I was already talking with a sales rep about this, and they weren't much help
other then pointing me to these forums. My question is:

I want to create a web-based media player using Flash. Users of the web site
have the ability to upload video, in quicktime or wmv format, and other users
can view these videos right away. So can the communications server either:

1. Stream quicktime and wmv files?
2. Or convert quicktime/wmv to flv on the fly?

And finally, the users can also upload audio, so I'm guessing it's pretty
simple to stream mp3s as well with this.

Thanks,
-Justin

I think that flashcom can't do that... the only choice (I guess) is to create a
conversion system that when the upload finishes, it starts.... ffmpeg is a gnu
soft that can handle several formats... take a look at it....

This isn't exactly the best place to find help that I've found :-)

My website ( www.talentshowoff.com ) allows people to upload video. A batch job
then uses ffmpeg to convert the video into flv which can then be emailed as
links for sharing with people. I'm not using communication server at present
because it doesn't install on thr Mandrake Linux my site is running on, but I'm
looking to get a new server running redhat. My next project aims to record
video from a webcam which will then be uploaded to a server and can then be
emailed.

Here is an ASP.NET project that allows you to upload any video, converts it to FLV using ffmpeg, captures a thumbnail image of the uploaded video and plays it in a flash player.

You can check it out here:
