Default Stroke with Pattern to Paths

Is there a way to take a stroke that has a dashed dot pattern and turn those dots into individual paths?

    Illustrator CS (11.0)

That would be neat. I think the best you can do is flatten the transparency and the rules will be converted to multiple closed paths.

Is there anyway to attach a shape to another shape?

If I had an oval with no fill or stroke and wanted to put a bunch of small white circles along the path, how would I go about that?

Can it be done? I know you can do it with text, but my shape is slightly different than a bullet.

If you flatten transparency, each dash segment will become a separate closed object.
Are we saying the same thing, Scott?

Sorry, I thought I included in my last message that I got an "error 16" when I tried to flatten the transperancy.

    Any thoughts?

Doug: Yes, what I was saying. The ability to convert to multiple open paths would, however, be useful.

Dunno what an error 16 is. Can you desribe the path that's dashed? Is it open or
closed? simple or compound? grouped? unfilled or filled? If there's nothing unusual
(or complex) about it, then I'm afraid I don't know enough to help you.

You make a pattern brush by first making the dots ( two or three will do) and spacing to your liking then align and distribute them and group them then draw a rectangle that extends beyond the grouped of dots by half the distance between the dots and drag that to the brush palette, you ungroup the dots, I don't know if that is actually necessary but I always do it, then you chose pattern brush and the default settings.

Then make your path and apply the brush then expand the path.

    Doug,
The path is an oval with extended dots that go around it.

    Wade,
You're talking way above me, but I'll give it a try.
