Studio 8 with contibute and client using Contribute CS3
I have built many sites using Dreamweaver MX and Fireworks MX for images. I
have recently got Studio 8 but have not installed Contribute as yet so have not
used it at all. Now I have a client site for which i would like to use
Contribute so they can edit their content. If I build the site using Studio
8's version of Dreamweaver and Contribute, then she would need to buy
Contribute so would presumably be buying Contribute CS3 - will this work
comfortably without any compatibility problems? i would need to be controlling
templates, permissions, etc. using Studio 8 but she would need to be editing
from her PC using Contribute CS3. Will that work or do we both need to be on
the same version of Contribute? Be grateful for any tips you can give me. The
other alternative would be for me to upgrade my Contribute to CS3 but keep my
Dreamweaver to Studio 8 - would that work better? Any advice gratefully
received!

Re: Studio 8 with contibute and client using ContributeCS3
You, since you will be the admin, will need to have CS3 also. Contribute 3
users can be administered by CS3 admins by setting compatibility to Transition
mode. The other way around is not comfortable and can produce major problems in
the admin of the site.
If you have an able computer user as client that can administer the website
himself, you could let the client do the administration in CS3 and you keep on
working in Dreamweaver. Problem here is that if there are problems in the admin
section you will have a knowledge arrears and you can't help because you don't
have CS3.
I would suggest upgrading your whole suite or Contribute alone, or try to get
hold of a second hand copy of Contribute 3.

Re: Studio 8 with contibute and client using ContributeCS3
Hi - thanks for your reply. I have never used Contribute at all so not sure as
yet what I'm talking about! Sorry to be stupid, but could I just clarify
again? If I build the site in Dreamweaver MX or Dreamweaver 8 can I then use
Contribute 3(is this the same as CS3?) and the client can also use the same
CS3? Does it work so that the site is built in any package and then the
whatever Contribute version you use needs to be the same for both the
admin/designer and the client/editor? Then is there a way to synch up the
changes that are made in CS3 by the client to synch up with your original
Dreamweaver files so that all files are the same? Sorry to ask so many
questions ahead of buying but i want to advice the client correctly and make
sure I can deliver! Many thanks. Tracy
