Default studio display upper third dark, light flashes

My Apple 17 inch Studio Display suddenly went dark (darker) on the top
third and the light flashes three times and then is off for about ten
    seconds.

Checked the connections, did the ram reset with Apple tech. Still
darkish on top third. Don't know if its the monitor or maybe the video
card? Or other hardware/software problem. Anyone else have this happen?

    Thanks for any help.

I think one of the neon lamps is dead. A TFT display has two or three neon
lamps in order to create a bright image.

Thank you. I've taken to the Apple Store, they sent it off to the
repair place. I'll post the out come. Thanks Christopher for taking
    the time to answer.

    Cheers,

    Richard
