Style sheet problem
Hi everyone,
I've had to export a whole heap of text from a Quark document so that it ends up in Microsoft Word. The document came across into Word with all the style intact from Quark, then I attached and overwrote these styles in Word with another lot of styles I created. The document was then imported into Indesign CS2 where the styles took on the identically named styles. The problem is that with a lot of the styles I'm finding that I'm having to manually enforce them in ID because they've got the little plus sign next to the style name in the style pallette - I think it's because of all the exporting form Quark to Word to InDesign. Anyway, what I'd like to know is, is there a quick way to enforce each of the styles in one fell swoop as opposed to clicking in each of the para's, then option clicking on the style in the style pallete? I mean can you sort identify a style and tell ID to update that style throughout the whole document, telling it that we want no local extra formatting added?
Any help much appreciated.

Re: Style sheet problem
To get rid of all local formatting, select the text, control click and choose 'Clear all overrides'. Just one of many useful features Quark could have done with. And I speak as a dedicated Quark user for 20 years!

Re: Style sheet problem
Why didn't you just open the Quark file in InDesign?

Quark 6 perhaps? And no facility to save down to 4?

Wow, when did that happen? Last time I looked it only supported Quark 4, I think. Great news!

Re: Style sheet problem
Thanks for the info. But what if I need to select only certain text with certain style sheets that need overriding - is there a way to target and select non-consecutive text like that?

Re: Style sheet problem
If you know what you want, I suppose it might be scriptable.

Re: Style sheet problem
I'd just want to target the name of a specific style sheet and have ID select all text styled with it so I could override it. I don't know much about scripting - can you tell me how I'd do it?
Thanks

Re: Style sheet problem
What do you want to override? If it's everything in that style, just
change the style and everything should be fine.
I don't know anything about scripting except how to use the scripts
after they've been written. You might want to pay a visit to the
scripting forum.
It's down the hall...fourth door on the left. <g>

Re: Style sheet problem
I am having a play with it, but am much more confident scripting Quark (and then not very!), so don't hold your breath!
