style sheet short cuts
Hi, I'm having a problem assigning a short cut to my paragraph or character styles. This is really slows down the process of formatting text for a catalog. In the new paragraph style box, I have a blinking curser in the "short cut" box....but it won't let me type in anything. It won't take any F key or number pad key. Has anyone had this happen and figured out what is wrong?
Thanks,
Debbie

Re: style sheet short cuts
The only shortcuts which can be used are combinations of the numeric keypad keys and the Option, Shift, and Command keys.

Re: style sheet short cuts
Just to amplify what Steve said, don't try tapping the number keys across the top row of numbers; only use the numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard.
And if you are working from a laptop, you are out of luck. Learn to use the new Quick Apply shortcut of Command Enter, where a flyout appears from the upper right of the application window.
Once you try this out, you may find you like it even better than using keyboard shortcuts in your defined styles! I certainly do!

Re: style sheet short cuts
Actually, on the Mac at least, you can use a laptop. But you have to combine the numbers you see on your letter keys with the "Fn" key at the bottom left. Very painful.
Much better to use Quick Apply. Unfortunately, you haven't upgraded to CS2 yet, and this is a CS2 feature.

Re: style sheet short cuts
You could write a script to apply the style and then you can use any
shortcuts you'd like.
